POO & A With the GM of Tonic – Brennan Titus

by admin on August 4, 2011

We got a chance to catch up with the man who makes it all happen at the hottest spot in Santa Barbara, Tonic.  Home of the next Santa Barbara Fire Poo.

Fire Poo:  What is Tonic most known for in Santa Barbara?

Brennan Titus:  Crazy dance floors with energy that no other venue can touch.  We also have the best looking ladies plus our bar staff is pretty damn good looking as well.

Fire Poo:  Why does Tonic support Fire Poo?

Brennan Titus:  Tonic has always been the hub for talented DJs on the central coast.  Matty and I are always looking for the next up and comer or the best party rocker we can find.  Our patrons expect a lot from their DJs.  If a DJ mails in a set they will know and be non-responsive but if they sense the DJ is working and into their set the crowd will go crazy.  Can’t tell you how many times I have heard people leaving saying “That’s the best set I have ever heard, that DJ was sick”

Fire Poo:  Aside from subscribing to Cheapshot’s anal-webcam how did you first learn about Fire Poo?

Brennan Titus:  Cheapshot is a marketing guru, he had a chick run up to me, pull her top down and had FIRE POO written across her chest.  I googled it immediately and found the promo video.  HA, but seriously we have a lot of DJs perform at Tonic from LA and the surrounding areas I follow most of them on Twitter and every time there is a FIRE POO event coming twitter goes nuts.  I finally looked it up and realized what it was.  I think it is an amazing event, DJs and managers are always in a loud environment and the best we can do is small talk about the drive, the weather, crowd, music, etc.  I believe fire poo really allows people to get to know the actual person behind the decks, not just the personality.  In a way the DJs let their guard down and geek out, where most of the time they have the pressure of providing an amazing night for a venue.  I am very excited to actually meet the person who DJs, not just the personality the DJ wants to be.

Fire Poo:  From a club manager’s perspective, whats the greatest thing you’ve seen happen at Tonic?

Brennan Titus:  Oh man, that’s a tough one.  There have been a lot of amazing moments at Tonic.  Probably the best was when we had DJ AM, Steve Aoki, LMFAO and Them Jeans perform all in one night for a charity event put on by DJ SuZanX aka Suzanne Boisvert.  It was all hosted by DJ Vice…talk about an all-star cast.

Fire Poo:  What is the most outrageous drunken moment that has gone down at Tonic? (Aside from Matty Matt’s usual moshing in the DJ booth)

Brennan Titus:  Ha, Matty is definitely a loose cannon.  The best one had to be a guy banging his chick (or some random chick) while standing at the bar.  The sex wasn’t all that funny but watching my security deal with the situation was classic.  I sent them up to talk to them but didn’t let them know exactly what was going on.  Needless to say the look on their face was priceless, the guy was pretty shocked as well.

Fire Poo:  What are some of the big names that have come through Tonic?

Brennan Titus:  Cheapshot (have to put him first right?) DJ AM, Vice, Aoki, JFK of MSTRKFT, Benny Benassi, Donald Glaude, DJ Dan, Eric Dlux, Mark Farina, Dave Aude, DJ Fashen, DJ Gusto, Sam Young, Homicide, 6Blocc, and probably some more I am forgetting.

Fire Poo:  Can you give us a preview on your wings? What variety of flavors do you have?

Brennan Titus:  Ha, we don’t have wings at Tonic but we are getting them from our sister restaurant Blush.  They are making them special for this event but I am sure they will be hot and great.

Fire Poo:  Shamelessly plug your twitter, facebook, website, and any other social media in one run-on sentence in the style of Busta Rhymes when he won a Grammy.
