We got a chance to interview the Owner of Dirty Birds – Leigh Gibson. We will be having Fire Poo San Diego at his restaurant on April 29th. Read on for a sneak peek of what to expect.
Fire Poo: What is Dirty Birds best known for in San Diego?
Leigh: We are all about Chicken Wings, 30 different sauces to be exact!
Fire Poo: Dirty Birds has had some awards won for its wings. Can you tell us about some of them and which one are you most proud of?
Leigh: Hands down when we were named Top 10 Wings in America by thedailymeal.com and Yahoo Sports. Shortly after Yahoo picked up the article and it ran on their homepage for a couple of days, the response was unbelievable!
Fire Poo: According to the poll on your site, your customers like the Maple Chipotle BBQ. Aside from that one, what are your top 3 favorite wing flavors?
Leigh: My top 3 are Dirty Bleu (a mixture of bleu cheese and hot sauce), Garlic Parm (tossed in fresh garlic butter and covered in parmesan cheese) and the 3 Pete BBQ (we bake ‘em, then fry ‘em, then toss them in more sauce and fry ‘em again).
Fire Poo: I noticed you use a lot of interesting marketing strategies like giving away free wings for a year to your millionth customer. What are some other tricks up your sleeve?
Leigh: Thanks for noticing, we try to take a different approach to marketing than most bars. Lately we have been working with a PR firm ( J Public Relations) to help us spread the word of the BIRD.
Fire Poo: Do you have any dirt of any of the Sleeping Giant guys that we should know about?
Leigh: Now that wouldn’t be right would it? I have known most of them for over 10 years now and cannot sling any dirt without incriminating myself.
